Almost every new AV receiver and surround processor now sports support for the format, with most supporting its competitor DTS:X as well. Apple recently announced Dolby Atmos support for the 4K Apple TV and is upgrading its iTunes movie rental offerings to Atmos as well. Amazon's latest streaming stick also supports the sound format. Speakers from respected brands like Bowers and Wilkins and Klipsch are available, both in surface mount or architectural styles designed expressly for delivering those three-dimensional height and positional overhead effects.

Vudu offers a large number of 4K movie titles with Atmos for online streaming. Most of Netflix's new dramatic series are available with Atmos as well, and Amazon is also offering it on many of theirs. There’s more than enough to watch in the new format, and a plethora of choices in equipment and brands from the budget-friendly to the very high end to deliver it.

Microsoft’s Xbox One console supports the Dolby Atmos format. More games are coming to market every month, with over a dozen available already. Unlike movies, games are played over and over. If you are into gaming – or have a child that is – you will never tire of Atmos audio in your media room or home theater.

What Are the Best Movies to Watch?

Even if you've already seen them, some of these are worth watching again just for the incredible audio mix. Mad Max: Fury Road could be the demo disc for the audio format, not to mention the incredible high dynamic range (HDR) visuals. The award-winning Gravity will have you hearing sounds you didn’t notice the first time around. Blade Runner 2049 is another visual and aural masterpiece. If you are a fan of Game of Thrones – now in its final season on HBO – you can also experience it with Atmos sound, but you’ll have to buy a season on a UHD Blu-ray disc.
